Description

Original woodcut by Shoun Yamamoto (1870 - 1965) "Far View of Tsukijima" c. 1900 - 1910
Label on the back of the gallery through which the engraving passed
Shoun Yamamoto studied traditional Chinese and Japanese painting in Tokyo. After his studies, he worked as an illustrator for a Tokyo newspaper. He created a series of engravings, "bijin" (beautiful women) entitled "Fashions of Today - Ima Sugata", kacho (birds and flowers) and landscapes. The series of woodcuts were published by Matsuki Heikichi. Shoun Yamamoto was above all a painter who regularly showed his works at the official Bunten and Teiten exhibitions with jury.
