Beautiful old lithograph representing "The Battle of Castiglione" after Champion delo, lithograph by C. Motte
The Battle of Castiglione takes place on August 5, 1796. It pitted the French commanded by General Bonaparte, Masséna and Augereau against three Austrian armies. The battle was in fact a series of fights that lasted five days, during which Wurmser lost many men and guns. The name of the battle is engraved on the triumphal arch in Paris. As a reward for his bravery, Bonaparte appointed Augereau to bring the flags taken from the enemy to the Directory. Bonaparte, who became Emperor Napoleon, awarded him the title of Duke of Castiglione for the same reasons.
45.5ht x 59L x 1.5P.
Many wear and tears, old holes and a tear
Warping of the engraving and scratches on the frame but the frame keeps a real charm for a lover of historical moments.
